(a+b) (a-b)
a) a²-64
= a2- (8)2
= (a - 8) ( a +8)
b)49x²-1
= (7x)2 - (1)2
= (7x - 1) (7x + 1)

Let the numbers are x and y
Then sum of two number is 11
x + y = 11........... (1)
And difference = 5
x - y = 5............. (2)
Addding (1) and (2), we get
2x = 16
x = 16/2 = 8
Put x = 8 in (1) , we get
8 + y = 11
y = 11 -8
y = 3

The sum of the two digits is 9.
On interchanging the digits, the resulting new number is greater than the original number by 27.
Let us assume the digit of units place be x.
Then the digit of tens place will be 9-x.
Thus the two-digit number is 10(9-x) + x
Let us reverse the digit
the number becomes 10x + (9-x).
As per the given condition
10x + (9-x) = 10(9-x) + x + 27
= 9x + 9 = 90 – 10x + x + 27
= 9x + 9 = 117 – 9x
On rearranging the terms we get,
=18x = 108
x = 6
So the digit in units place is 6
Digit in tens place is 9-x= 9-6=3
Hence the number is 36

let two numbers are x and y
As per given condition
x - y = 10...... (I)
And the second condition
x: y = 2: 3
x/y = 2/3
x = 2/3 y
Put value of x in (I)
2/3 y - y = 10
(2/3 - 1) y = 10
-1/3 y = 10
y = -30
Put it in (I)
x - (-30) = 10
x + 30 = 10
x = 10 - 30
x= -20

inverse variation = x1y1 = x2y2
= 800×25=(800+200)×x
= 800×25=1000×x
20000 = 1000×x
x = 20000 ÷ 1000
x = 20

Let x be the first number.
Since, it is odd
Let x + 2 be the second number.
Let x + 4 be the third number.
Given that the sum is 81
x + (x+2) + (x+4) = 81
3x + 6 = 81
3x = 81 - 6
3x = 75
x = 75/3
x = 25
Therefore,
x+2 = 25 + 2 = 27
x + 4 = 25 + 4 = 29
There fore the numbers are x, x+2, x+4
25, 27, 29

Example:
These are all linear equations:
y = 2x + 1
5x = 6 + 3y
y/2 = 3 − x

Let consecutive numbers be, x, x+1 and x+2.
According to the condition, we have
x + [x+1] +[x+2] =51
or x + x + 1 + x + 2 =51
or 3x + 3 = 51
Transposing 3 to RHS, we have
3x = 51 - 3 = 48
Dividing both sides by 3, we have:
or x =16
Now x + 1 = 16 + 1 = 17
and x + 2 = 16 + 2 =18
Thus, the required three consecutive numbers are: 16, 17 and 18.

Let Asha's present age=x
let Nirmal's present age = y
therefore, x:y = 5:6
let common multiple be k
then, x=5k and y=6k
and, asha's age 5 years from now = x+5
Nirmal's age 5 years from now= y+5
therefore, (x+5):(y+5)= 6:7
5k+5 / 6k+5 = 6/7
or, 35k+35= 36k+30
or, k=5
therefore, present age of Asha=25
and Nirmal= 30
