The main reason that the rulers commissioned the construction of monuments was to commemorate events mainly a victory in a battle. It could also be for an event like a marriage alliance between two kingdoms. The core purpose was to leave a mark about the event and also to glorify their persona in history. The Karnatic style extended northward into Mahārāshtra, where the Kailasa temple at Ellora is the most famous example.

In ancient times, people actually built sand filtration columns. As the water slowly trickled through the column, it cleaned the water. When using soil or sand as a filter, particles that might be bad for you get stuck in the little gaps, or pores. This small stuff gets trapped as the water continues to flow down.

Abu'l-Fath Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar, popularly known as Akbar the Great, and also as Akbar I, was the third Mughal emperor, who reigned from 1556 to 1605. Akbar succeeded his father, Humayun, under a regent, Bairam Khan, who helped the young emperor expand and consolidate Mughal domains in India. 'Mariam-uz-Zamani' was in fact a title bestowed on her by Akbar on the occasion of their son Jahangir's birth. This was the name by which she was referred to in contemporary Mughal chronicles, including Jahangir's autobiography, the Tuzk-e-Jahangiri.
