Settlements are areas where people build homes to live. The location where people construct buildings or develop a settlement is called a site. The initial settlements were usually around river valleys which gradually expanded to form civilizations.  Settlements can be either temporary or permanent. The settlements which are occupied for a short period are called temporary settlements while the permanent settlements are those which are occupied for a long period of time.

Advantages for the weavers

  • Cost Saving: They do not have to spend money on purchase of yarn. They also save on the money spent on selling (money spent on finding customers and other sales related costs) of the finished cloth.
  • Clarity of Work: The weavers have clarity regarding what cloth they should make and how much is to be woven.

Therefore, the weavers depend on the merchants for raw materials and markets. This high level of dependence proves that the merchants have a lot of power.

Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty in India, was the son of Shiekh Umar Mirza, the ruler of Farghana. He was born in A.D. 1483. He ascended the throne of Fergana (now in Uzbekistan) in 1495, at the age of 12. In 1504, he conquered Kabul, which was an important citadel in Central Asia.
Babur was invited by Daulat Khan Lodi, a rebel of the Lodi dynasty, in 1524, to invade North India and fight the dynasty and their enemies in Rajputana. Rajputana was ruled by a Hindu Rajput confederacy, led by Mewar king Rana Sanga.
