- Producers produce something and consumers consume something.
- Producers are the primary components of an ecosystem who produce substances like food (or substrate), nutrients and oxygen (required for breathing); materials that can be used by other species. Plants are a perfect example of producers. Consumers, on the other hand, consume materials generated by the producers and hence they use the food, nutrients and oxygen. Animals, man, etc. are good examples of consumers.
- Producers are capable of photosynthesis, a process by which they covert light energy into chemical energy, while consumers use respiration.
- Producers generate complex organic molecules, while consumers break them down into simpler ones (say, sugars to carbon dioxide, etc.).
- Producers concentrate energy into complex molecules, while the consumers convert these into simpler molecules and also get energy as a by-product.

A special identification or name that is associated with a product is called a brand. Advertising creates this special identification. Brand building is central to advertising because it helps in differentiating the product from that of the competitor. It also convinces the consumer to give preference to the concerned brand.

The kinds of markets we visit for our basic needs and comfortable living include:
- Weekly markets: A weekly market is held on a specific day of the week. Permanent shops are not there in weekly markets. Traders set up a shop for the day and in the evening they close it. They set up the shops in another location the next day. In India, there are thousands of such shops. These cater to the everyday requirements of the people.
- Neighbourhood shops: Many shops sell goods and services in our neighbourhood. These are a mix of permanent shops and roadside stalls. Roadside stalls are that of eateries, vegetable hawkers, mechanic, etc.
- Shopping complex and malls: Shopping complexes are the markets in the urban areas that have many shops. Malls are large multi-storeyed air-conditioned buildings with shops on different floors. We get both branded and non-branded goods.
