The foundation of Mughal Empire in India was laid in the early 1500s when Babur gained control over parts of Sindh. In 1526, when Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi in the first battle of Panipat he laid the foundation for the Mughal Empire.
The Mughal rulers proved that they were good administrators as from the latter half of the 16th century, their kingdom extended from present-day Bangladesh in the east to Baluchistan in the west and Kashmir in the north to the Kaveri basin in the south.
Babur‘s mother was a descendant of Genghis Khan, who invaded India during the rule of Illtutmish, and his father was a descendant of Timur, the ruler of Iran, Iraq and modern-day Turkey. The Mughals did not like the association with Genghis Khan but were very proud to have Timur as their ancestor.

By the 15th century, the Bengali group of dialects came to be united by a common literary language based on the spoken language of the western part of the region, now known as West Bengal. Though the base of Bengali is Sanskrit, it has passed through many stages of evolution. Many non-Sanskrit words are also a part of modern-day Bengali. The sources of these words are tribal languages, Persian and European languages.

Khabar Lahariya - Bundeli for ‘News Waves’ - is a weekly rural newspaper written, edited, illustrated, produced and marketed by a group of women - most of them from marginalised Dalit, Kol and Muslim communities - in Chitrakoot and Banda districts of Uttar Pradesh in north India.
The publication began in May 2002 in Chitrakoot and a second edition was launched in the adjoining Banda district in October 2006. Presently, between both editions, Khabar Lahariya has a print run of almost 5,000 copies, and a readership of over 25,000 in over 400 villages in both districts.
In 2008 the Khabar Lahariya group registered as an independent organisation, Pahal - one of the only rural women’s media collectives in the country.
