If the food is broken down with the use of oxygen, it is called aerobic respiration. If the breakdown occurs without the use of oxygen, the respiration is called anaerobic respiration. During heavy exercise when the supply of oxygen to our muscle cells is insufficient, food breakdown is by anaerobic respiration

Ruminants are grass eating animals like the cow, ox, buffalo and sheep swallow the food without chewing. After feeding, they bring the food from the stomach back into the mouth and chew it leisurely. This process is called rumination and such animals are called as ruminants. Rumination is also called second chewing. Micro-organisms present in the stomach of ruminants help in digesting cellulose and in turn obtain shelter and nourishment form the animal. A symbiotic relationship exists between microorganisms and the ruminants. Digestion in ruminants is a good example of symbiosis.

  • Dispersal of seed is important as if seeds germinate near to parent plants it will increase a lot of competition for air, water, and food as well.
  • If competition increases it will lead to the death of the species and dispersal also leads to exposure to a new environment that helps in adaptation and evolution.

Without plant life, there would be no photosynthesis. Photosynthesis stores solar energy in a form plants can use. More importantly, a primary byproduct of photosynthesis is gaseous oxygen.

All animals eat either plants or other animals in order to obtain energy, and the only way they can metabolize this energy is through a chemical reaction with oxygen (which plants have created through photosynthesis).

Without plants, the world would be devoid of life. Human existence would be impossible without them.

The form of nutrition in which food is eaten in solid form is called holozoic nutrition

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 4 months ago

Holozoic nutrition (Greek: holo whole and zoikos of animals) is a method of nutrition that involves the ingestion of liquid or solid organic material, digestion, absorption and assimilation of it to utilize it. It includes taking in the complex substances and converting them into simpler forms. For example, proteins can be broken into amino acids. This method suggests phagocytosis where the cell membrane completely surrounds a food particle.
Most of the free living animals including humans exhibit this type of nutrition. In this mode of nutrition, the food may be a small bacterium, a plant or an animal. This nutrition involves:

  1. Ingestion: Taking in complex organic food through mouth opening.
  2. Digestion: Change of complex food into simple form by action of enzymes.
  3. Absorption: Passing of simple, soluble nutrients through blood or lymph.

It is a reaction in which acid is mixed with base to get salt water. Acid + Base= Salt + Water Eg: Hydrochloric acid + Sodium Hydroxide = HCL + NAOH = Acid + Base = NACL + H2O = Salt + Water

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 4 months ago

Neutralisation Reaction: The reaction in which an acid reacts with a base to form salts and water is called neutralization reaction.

Acid + base     Salt + Water

Some heat is always evolved in a neutralization reaction.  The heat raises the temperature of reaction mixture due to which the reaction mixture becomes hot. In this reaction two new substances salt and water are formed.

Organisms, which derive nutrition from the body of other living organisms (host), are called parasites; for example, cuscuta (amarbel) and insect-eating plants. 9. Insect-eating plants are called insectivorous plants. Pitcher plant is an example of an insectivorous plant. Some organisms live together and share shelter and nutrients. This is called symbiotic relationship. For example, certain fungi live in the roots of trees. The tree provides nutrients to the fungus and, in return, receives help from it to take up water and nutrients from the soil.

Lactic acid is found primarily in sour milk products, such as koumiss, laban, yogurt, kefir, and some cottage cheeses. The casein in fermented milk is coagulated (curdled) by lactic acid. Lactic acid is also responsible for the sour flavor of sourdough bread. Lactic acid is found in sour milk, but you may have also heard of or tried other AHAs, such glycolic acid, from sugar cane, which is also a popular ingredient in anti-aging topical skin care products.

All organisms take food and utilise it to get energy for the growth and maintenance of their bodies. Green plants synthesise their food themselves by the process of photosynthesis. They are autotrophs. Plants use simple chemical substances like carbon dioxide, water and minerals for the synthesis of food.

The uppermost layer of earth’s crust is called soil. Soil is one of the most important natural resources. It supports the growth of plants by holding the roots firmly and supplying water and nutrients. Soil contains air, water and countless living organisms like bacteria, fungi, insects, worms, rodents, moles, and plant roots. Soil is existence of life on the earth.

Uses of soil:

  1. It is essential for agriculture. Soil is used for growing food like grains, pulses etc.
  2. Soil is used to grow trees for obtaining wood for building purposes for making as fuel and for making paper.
  3. It is also used to grow cotton plants and mulberry trees.
  4. Soil is also used to make earthenware or pottery.

In the pitcher plant ?has a one type of juice the smell of is like a nectar so the insects come to take it but it was like a slide to came down it and take her nutritions

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 4 months ago

Pitcher plant has partial heterotrophic mode of nutrition. It performs photosynthesis. To meet its nitrogenous requirement it feeds on insects since pitcher plant grows in nitrogen deficient soil.
In a pitcher plant, the leaf is modified to form a pitcher like structure. The pitcher has a lid which gets closed when a insects sits on it. In this way, the insect gets trapped in the pitcher. The insect is then digested by various enzymatic secretions.

Plants need proteins and fats besides the carbohydrate. Proteins are nitrogenous substances which contain nitrogen. Although nitrogen is present in abundance in atmosphere, but plant cannot absorb atmospheric nitrogen. Plant gets nitrogen from soil. Certain types of bacteria called rhizobium, are present in soil. They convert gaseous nitrogen into usable form and release it into the soil. Plants absorb these soluble forms of nitrogen along with water and other minerals through roots.

Sometimes farmers add nitrogenous fertilizer to their field to fulfill the need of nitrogen. In this way plants gets fulfillment of nitrogen along with other nutrients. After the fulfillment of all nutrients plants synthesize proteins and fats.
