    Reflection is when light bounces off an object. If the surface is smooth and shiny, like glass, water or polished metal, the light will reflect at the same angle as it hit the surface. This is called specular reflection. Light reflects from a smooth surface at the same angle as it hits the surface. Pure water is colorless, whether in a vapor, liquid, or solid phase. That is, the molecules of water cannot absorb visible light and so cannot yield colors like dye or pigment molecules. Water and glass not only reflect but also refract light. This means that as a light beam enters water or glass, the light bends.

    The law of reflection are -
    1. angle of incident is equal to angle of reflection.
    2. incident ray, reflected ray and normal all lies on the same plane

    The above activity will show that the incident ray, reflected ray and the normal at the point of incidence all the three lie in the same plane.

     

    1. Take a white sheet, spread it on a table.

    2. Draw a line MM' on it and place a plane mirror vertically on this line.

    3. Take a comb and cover all the opening of it except one. Now, let light pass through this opening such that the parallel light rays fall on the mirror.

    4. Adjust the set-up in such a way that a pattern of incident and reflected ray is formed.

    5. Now mark points A, B, C on incident ray and points D, E, F on its corresponding reflected ray.

    6. Remove the mirror and join the points. Extend the line ABC and DEF to meet MM' at O.

    7. OA is incident ray and OF is reflected ray. Draw ON perpendicular to MM'.

    Therefore, we can see that incident ray, reflected ray and normal at the point of incidence, all lie in one plane.

    Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria are free-living bacteria which actively colonize leguminous plant roots, exerting beneficial effects on plant development.     Plant tissue culture is a practice of propagating plants under sterile conditions, often to produce clones of a plant. This process is also called micropropagation. Process of tissue culture: Plants are grown in test tubes. A small part of the plant is allowed to grow on a nutrient medium containing all nutrients and hormones necessary for the plant growth. The cells of this small part divide and form mass of cells called the callus. Callus develops plantlets which are then transferred into the soil to grow as new individuals.

    Filtration: Filtration is a process by which insoluble solids can be removed from a liquid by using a filter paper.
    A filter paper is a special type of paper which has pores that are tiny enough to let only liquids pass through it. If you pass a solution through filter paper, any undissolved solid particles will get left behind on the paper whereas the liquid will filter through
    Example: A mixture of chalk powder and water can be separated by this method.

    A Cyclone is a large scale air mass that rotates around strong centers of low pressure.

    • Water vapors are formed when water is heated.
    • This heat is released to atmosphere when water vapors convert to water during rains.
    • The heat released, warms the air around and makes it to move up. This also results in decreased air pressure.
    • Hence, cooler air from surrounding rushes to take the warm air’s place.
    • This repeats till a low pressure system with surrounding high speed winds is created. This is called a Cyclone.
    • Cyclone depends on wind speed, direction, temperature and humidity.

    Cyclones are also called Hurricane in USA and Typhoon in Japan and Philippines
