(1) Start with x = 2
Multiply both sides by 3,
3 × x = 2 × 3
3x = 6
Subtract 2 from both sides,
3x – 2 = 6 – 2
3x – 2 = 4 . . . . (1)
(2) Start with x = 2
Multiply both sides by 4,
4 × x = 2 × 4
4x = 8
Add 5 to both sides,
4x + 5 = 8 + 5
4x + 5 = 13 . . . . (2)
(3) Start with x = 2
Multiply both sides by 5,
5 × x = 2 × 5
5x = 10
Subtract 1 from both sides,
5x – 1 = 10 – 1
5x – 1 =9 . . . . (3)
