A rational number is a number which can be written in the form of p/q (ratio) where the denominator(q) is not equal to zero. This implies that it can be represented in the form of a fraction. Thus, every rational number has a numerator and a denominator, that is, one integer divided by another integer (excluding zero).

An exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of its interior opposite angles.

Consider triangle ABC. ∠ACD is an exterior angle.

Through C, draw CE||BA

To prove: ∠ 1 + ∠2 =  ∠ACD

Proof: ∠1 = ∠x (pair of alternate interior angles since, CE||BA)

∠2 = ∠y (pair of corresponding angles)

∠1 + ∠2 = ∠x + ∠y

i.e. ∠1 + ∠2 = ∠ACD [  ∠x + ∠y = ∠ACD]

Hence proved.

Area of room = 5.5 × 4 = 22.0 m2
area of room + verandah= (5.5+2.25+2.25) × (4+2.25+2.25) = 85m2
therefore area of verandah only = 85 - 22 = 63m2
