According to Soapygoing to jail is a more dignified way to get free room and board for the winter. So, Soapy's real goal isn't jail so much as a way to get food and shelter in the least humiliating way with the least sacrifice of his privacy.

Soapy is a man who neither has a job nor has a home. He is restless because he need to go to prison for three months to get survived in the winter season.

Explanation:

It is a short story written by O.Henry. This story narrates about a man named ‘Soapy’, who is homeless and jobless as well. To survive the winter season, he wished to go to prison for three months.

He made several attempts in getting cop's attention by doing some notorious activities.

But, those attempts got failed. Later, on hearing a church’s anthem, he got new energy to face this world. Unfortunately, a cop arrested him and put him in prison.

"In time" means various things but here it would mean with time to do something. So, something like: "My appointment was a 8, but I arrived at 7:55, in time to wash my face before the meeting".

"On time" means that you arrived when you were supposed to: "My meeting was a 8, but I wasn't exactly on time, I was 5 minutes early".

The squirrel is a rodent. His colour is grey with brown strips on its body. It looks like a baby rabbit as it is very small in size with fur on its body. He generally lives in trees and is very quick. Squirrel likes to eat nuts. It has very bushy tail. It is a cute and naughty animal.

Gaurav Seth 4 years, 3 months ago

The poet said the squirrel “wore a question mark for tail” because the shape of the tail of squirrel sitting on the ground looks very similar to question mark. I would describe it as fur of clothes clutched together or bushy shaped.

The King- The king is conscientious but ambitious. He just want to know the answers of those three question. When he was not able to find those answer he again continue his search .The question became very much important for him. His compassionate nature, forgiving attitude clearly proves that he wanted success not for any selfish, this also prove that he was not at all selfish. He choose the wise hermit which showed his foresightedness and intelligence. The inherent nature of the king to do well and be good. The hermit was a wise man, who stays in a nearby village. The hermit would only see common people, however, so the king put on common dress, left his guards behind, and went to see the hermit.
