The narrator got the address of Mrs. Dorling from her late mother. Mrs. Dorling had taken away all her mother’s valuable possessions and promised to keep them safe during the half of the first world war.

Many people in the deserts are nomads. Nomads rear cattle like goats, cows and camels. They keep moving from one place to another with their animals in search of food and water for them. Some of them are craftsmen and make a living by selling their goods. Their traditional lifestyle has adapted to these extremely arid conditions. Their nomadic lifestyle means they do not settle in one area for long. Instead, they move on frequently to prevent exhausting an area of its resources. They have herds of animals which are adapted to living in desert conditions, such as camels.

Mr. Nath, was a neighbor of the children at Shankar House. He lived alone, kept to himself and often sought medical treatment from the children's mother. We do not have any clear evidence on the character of Mr. Nath, who had mixed reviews from the neighbors, who thought he was quite rude and mad, while Nishad and his mother, thought Mr. Nath was a harmless man and rather polite. The reader is free to make any assumptions on Mr. Nath, provided they are logical and well-backed by facts from the story.

“No one owns money; you are just the trustee of it. Money keeps changing hands. If you succeed in life, try to return it to the society that has been kind to you,” these words of advice given by JRD Tata, when Sudha left TELCO to help her husband build Infosys, had always motivated and inspired her.
