Prejudice means to judge people negatively or see them as inferiors. We fit a large number of people into a single image to create social stereotypes. Stereotypes are misleading.

The Arctic Circle lies at 66 and ½ degree north of the equator. The earth rotates on its orbit around the sun and completes its rotation and revolution. The earth receives the rays of the sun horizontally and we perceive it as vertical.
Some consider the direct rays of sun as vertical rays that are received by the equatorial region. The arctic region receives sunlight for 24 hours in summers, but they are not vertical rays as the sun is at a low elevation from arctic region.

Activity 3.1
Activity 3.1 asks us to feel and compare the hairs present on our head and skin.
Observation: We feel body hairs are softer than hairs on our head.
Answer: Hairs in different regions of our body are different. Our head and facial hairs are much harder than the hairs which grow on other parts. As a result, we feel different when we touch body hair and compare it with hairs on the head.

Greek word "Planetai"
The word planet means ‘wanderer’. This is because the planets do appear to wander listlessly across the night sky. The stars also move across the sky east to west but relative to each other, they appear fixed. The planets, on the other hand, seem to move relative to the fixed stars in backwards and forwards directions. This is why they were called Wanderers.
A planet is a large celestial body that revolves around the sun in fixed orbits. Planets do not have any light of their own but reflect the light of the sun. Planets also do not twinkle like stars because they are much closer to us. The earth is also a planet and is the only place we know in the universe which can harbor life.

Stereotyping is setting an image about people or things based on certain characteristics or their membership to a particular group. Stereotyping is harmful for the individual and society for the following reasons:
1. We set an image of people belonging to one community and then pass on this impression to others. Thus, this establishes an unbroken chain of unestablished form of lies.
2. This image gets fixed and we start to recognise that group based on the set image. This stops us from appreciating the individual qualities.
