Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a severe, highly contagious viral disease. The FMD virus causes illness in cows, pigs, sheep, goats, deer, and other animals with divided hooves. It does not affect horses, dogs, or cats. FMD is not a public health or food safety threat. Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a devastating disease of livestock caused by a Picornavirus. There are seven serotypes of the virus. All species of cloven-hoofed animals are susceptible. The disease is extremely contagious giving new meaning to FMD (Fast Moving Disease). There is no specific treatment for FMD. The conventional method of treating infected animals mainly involves the use of antibiotics, flunixin meglumine and mild disinfectants

Parasites - African Trypanosomiasis (also known as Sleeping Sickness) African Trypanosomiasis, also known as “sleeping sickness”, is caused by microscopic parasites of the species Trypanosoma brucei. It is transmitted by the tsetse fly (Glossina species), which is found only in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Sleeping sickness is caused by parasites transmitted by infected tsetse flies and is endemic in 36 sub-Saharan African countries. Without treatment, the disease is considered fatal. where there are tsetse flies that transmit the disease.
- The people most exposed to the tsetse fly and to the disease live in rural areas and depend on agriculture, fishing, animal husbandry or hunting.
- Human African trypanosomiasis takes 2 forms, depending on the parasite involved: Trypanosoma brucei gambiense accounts for more than 98% of reported cases.
- Sustained control efforts have reduced the number of new cases. In 2009 the number reported dropped below 10 000 for the first time in 50 years, and in 2018 there were 977 cases recorded.
- Diagnosis and treatment of the disease is complex and requires specifically skilled staff.

Reptiles are air-breathing vertebrates covered in special skin made up of scales, bony plates, or a combination of both.
They include crocodiles, snakes, lizards, turtles, and tor- toises. All regularly shed the outer layer of their skin. Their metabolism depends on the temperature of their environment.
Unlike birds and mammals, reptiles do not maintain a constant internal body temperature. Without fur or feathers for insulation, they cannot stay warm on a cold day, and without sweat glands or the ability to pant, they cannot cool off on a hot one. Instead, they move into the sun or into the shade as needed. During cooler parts of the year they become inactive. Because of their slow metabolism and heat-seeking behavior, reptiles are cold-blooded.
Reptile reproduction also depends on temperature. Only boas and pythons give birth to live young. The other species lay their eggs in a simple nest, and leave. The young hatch days to months later.
Giant tortoises don't usually move more than a mile and a half a day. While they may be slow on their feet, they have surprisingly quick minds and are smarter than most people imagine.

Plants that eat insects are called insectivorous plants. The pitcher plant is the example of an insectivorous plant. When an insect sits on the pitcher of the plant, the lid closes and the insect gets trapped inside the pitcher and is ultimately digested inside the pitcher.

Our food contains mainly five major kinds of nutrients namely vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates main function is providing energy to the body. These are found in our food in the form of sugar and starch i.e. simple and complex carbohydrates. Example It is found in bread, potatoes etc.
Proteins: Proteins performs the very essential function of helping our body grow and repair itself. These are found in food items such as milk, pulses, eggs, meat etc. Foods containing proteins are called ‘body-building’ foods.
Fats: Fats are also responsible for providing energy to our body. In fact, they provide more energy than carbohydrates. The body uses fat as a fuel source. Fats are essential for the absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K in the body. Butter, cheese, oil are all examples of fat-rich foods.
Vitamins: Vitamins help in protecting our bodies from various kinds of diseases. They also help in keeping our eyes, gums, bones and teeth in good shape.

Cotton is cultivated in black clayey soil. It needs warm climate. The sowing of cotton crop is done in early spring. Cotton plants are bushy and about 1-2 meters tall. The plants start flowering in about 60 days and give whitish - yellow flowers. The flowers turn reddish in a few days. Flowers slowly grow into spherical walnut-like structures. These are called cotton ball.

We will separate sand and water by sedimentation and decantation method. First we leave this mixture for some time. After some time, the sand which is heavier is settled down at the bottom. After that we will pour water into another container and the mixture will be separated.

Dissolving salt in water and then distillation
Process to separate sand and salt from the mixture :

- It supports and holds leaves, flowers, and fruits.
- The stem allows the leaves to arrange in a way that they are able to receive direct sunlight in order to efficiently perform photosynthesis. The arrangement and position of leaves also allow for gas exchange.
- The xylem and phloem present in the vascular bundles of stems conduct water and minerals across the plant.
- Stems bear flowers and fruits in a position that facilitates the processes of pollination, fertilization, and dispersion of seeds.
- Some stems undergo modification to store food and water. Example: succulents.
- Few green stems contain chloroplasts and are capable of carrying out photosynthesis as well.

Sink condition is the ability of the dissolution media to dissolve at least 3 times the amount of drug that is in your dosage form. Having sink conditions helps your dissolution have more robustness as well as being more biologically relevant. One of the requirements to conduct an appropriate drug dissolution test is to use a sufficient volume of dissolution medium, which should be able to dissolve the expected amount of drug released from a product. This ability of the medium to dissolve the expected amount of drug is known as a “sink condition”.

Sedimentation is defined as the separation process in which solids are separated from the liquid. All the solids settle down at the bottom of a beaker and on top, a clear layer of liquid is obtained.
Decantation is defined as the separation process in which two immiscible liquids are separated. This is done by pouring out the clear upper layer of liquid. Separation of a mixture of oil from water is an example of decantation.

Exothermic Reaction
The chemical reactions which proceed with the evolution of heat energy are called exothermic reactions.
Examples:
Carbon burns in oxygen to form carbon dioxide and heat energy is produced.
C + O2 → CO2 + Heat
Water added to quick lime (calcium oxide), slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) is produced with a lot of heat energy.
CaO + H2O → Ca(OH)2 + Heat
