A chemical reaction that emits heat energy is known as an exothermic reaction. In an exothermic reaction, the reactants release heat energy while they undergo the reaction to become products.
Reactants → Products + Heat
Exothermic reactions are everywhere, from the burning of a candle to our burning sun.

An object forms shadow on the opposite side to the source of light. The sunlight also forms shadows of the objects which are on the ground or near the ground. For example – if we stand in the sun, our body casts a shadow on the ground.

Niels Bohr, revised Rutherford’s atomic model and put forth the following suggestions:
Neils Bohr proposed that the electrons possess a specific amount of energy which allows them to revolve around the nucleus. The electrons are confined to these energy levels. While revolving in these discrete orbits, the electrons do not radiate energy. Hence, these orbits are also known as stationary orbits or stationary shells. Smaller the size of the orbit, smaller is its energy.
As we move away from nucleus, the energy of the orbit increases progressively. The transfer of an electron from one orbit to another is always accompanied with absorption or emission of energy. When an electron jumps from a lower energy level to a higher energy level, it absorbs energy. When an electron returns from a higher energy level to a lower energy level, it emits energy.

Fabrics are made from yarn by weaving and knitting.
Weaving is a process of making a fabric by arranging yarns passing in one direction with other yarns at right angles to them. Two sets of yarn are woven to make a fabric. The weaving of yarn to make fabrics is done by using ‘looms'.Knitting is the process of making a fabric by interlocking loops of single yarn with knitting needles or machines. It can be done by hand or on machines. A sweater is made by the process of knitting by using a single ‘woollen yarn’ with the help of knitting needles.

Hand picking:
This method is usually used to separate undesirable substances such as small pieces of stones from wheat, rice and pulses. The pieces of stone are picked up from the grains by hand, one by one, and thrown away. In this way, all the stone pieces are removed and only foodgrains are left behind.

Sieving is used to separate those mixtures which have components of different sizes. In this process, the mixture having components of different sizes are put in a sieve and the sieve is moved back and forth continuously.
Examples of sieving:
- The sieving of flour is done to remove the coarse particles of flour (wheat bran) from it so as to obtain fine flour to make chapattis.
- In a flour mill, the impurities from the wheat are removed by the process of sieving before grinding it.
