The method of separating a mixture by using a sieve is called sieving.
Sieving is used to separate those mixtures which have components of different sizes. In this process, the mixture having components of different sizes are put in a sieve and the sieve is moved back and forth continuously. The smaller particles pass through the holes of the sieve and collect in a vessel kept below. The bigger particles remain behind in the sieve.

Sun being not a point source of light, the shadow of aeroplane cast by the sun consists of a conical region of total darkness (umbra) flanked by regions of part-shadow (penumbra). Since the aeroplane is at a height the apex of the
umbra is unable to reach the earth, so no umbra shadow is formed. While the penumbra becomes lesser and lesser, dark as the distance goes on increasing. So on reaching the earth penumbra becomes lesser and lesser, dark as the distance goes on increasing. So on reaching the earth penumbra
looses all shades of darkness. Hence no shadow is formed on ground.

When the rain hits the ground it creates vibrations on the soil surface. This causes earthworms to come out of their burrows to the surface. Earthworms find it easier to travel across the surface of the soil when it is wet, as they need a moist environment to survive.

When we breathe in, the ribs are lift up and the diaphragm flattens which increases the size of the chest cavity. Because of this, air is sucked into the lungs and fills the expanded alveoli. When we breathe out, the ribs flatten and the diaphragm lifts up which decreases the size of the chest cavity. Because of this, air is expelled out from the lungs.

We prefer using plastic materials for storing a food item, water, milk, pickles, dry food etc., as plastic containers seem most convenient to use. This is due to the following properties of plastics:
- Plastic is non-reactive: Unlike iron, plastics do not corrode easily. It does not react with air, water or any chemical so it is safe to store many kinds of materials including chemicals.
- Plastic is light, strong and durable: Plastics have low density so they are lighter than metals. They also have good strength and are durable. It is because of the low price, easy availability, lightweight, corrosive resistant, the plastic containers are preferred for making household articles.
- Plastics are poor conductors: Plastics are poor conductors of heat and electricity. That is why electrical wires have plastic covering, and handles of screw drivers are made of plastic.
