a statement that the values of two mathematical expressions are equal (indicated by the sign =).

Gaurav Seth 5 years ago

An equation says that two things are equal. It will have an equals sign "=" like this: 7 + 2 = 10 − 1. That equation says: what is on the left (7 + 2) is equal to what is on the right (10 − 1) So an equation is like a statement "this equals that"

What is an equation? In algebra, an equation can be defined as a mathematical statement consisting of an equal symbol between two algebraic expressions that have the same value. The most basic and common algebraic equations in math consist of one or more variables. For instance, 3x + 5 = 14 is an equation, in which 3x + 5 and 14 are two expressions separated by an ‘equal’ sign. yes,o is also a variable.

Which of the following numbers are co-prime: (a) 18 and 35 (b) 15 and 37 (c) 30 and 415 (d) 17 and 168 (e) 216 and 215 (f) 81 and 16

Ans:

A Co-prime number is a set of numbers or integers which have only 1 as their common factor i.e. their highest common factor (HCF) will be 1.

(a)

Factors of 18 = 1, 2, 3, 6, 9,18

Factors of 35 = 1, 5, 7, 35

Common factor of 18 and 35 = 1

Since both have only one common factor, i.e., 1, therefore, they are co-prime numbers.

(b)

Factors of 15 = 1, 3, 5,15

Factors of 37 = 1, 37

Common factor of 15 and 37 = 1

since both have only one common factor, i.e., 1, therefore, they are co-prime numbers.

(c)

Factors of 30 = 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 15, 30

Factors of 415 = 1, 5, 83, 415

Common factor of 30 and 415 = 1,5

Since both have more than one common factor, therefore, they are not co-prime numbers

(d)

Factors of 17 = 1, 17

Factors of 68 = 1, 2, 4, 17, 34, 86

Common factor of 17 and 68 = 1, 17

Since, both have more than one common factor, therefore, they are not co-prime numbers

(e)

Factors of 216 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 36, 72, 108,216

Factors of 215 = 1, 5, 43, 215

Common factor of 216 and 215 = 1

Since, both Have only one common factor, i.e , 1 , therefore they are co-prime numbers.

(f)

Factors of 81 = 1, 3, 9, 27, 81

Factors of 16 = 1, 2, 4, 8, 16

Common factor of 81 and 16  = 1

Since both have only one common factor, i.e., 1, therefore, they are co-prime numbers.

The LCM of 3,6,9,12 is 36.

2/3=2×12/3×12=24/36

1/6=1×6/6×6=6/36

5/9=5×4/9×4=20/36

7/12=7×3/12×3=21/36

So, Ascending order = 6/36<20/36<21/36<24/36

=1/6<5/9<7/12<2/3

Savita wants to divide Rs 500 between his two sons .

The ratio of age of Suresh and Naresh = 15 : 10  0r 3 : 2 (the age of Suresh is 15 years and that of Naresh is 10 years.)

Division of Rs 500 in 3 : 2

Suresh will get  500 x [3 / 3+2]

=  500 x [3 / 5]

= 300 Rs.

Now, Naresh will get 500 - 300 = 200 RS.

Check if the following are in proportion.
a) 42 , 54 ,63 , 81

42/54 = 7/9

63/81 = 7/9

So, 42 , 54 ,63 , 81  are in propertion.
b) 4.2 , 5 , 2.5 , 3

4.2/5 = 42/50 = 21/25

2.5/3 = 25/30 = 5/6

So, 4.2 , 5 , 2.5 , 3 are not in propertion

The ratio of the number of sides of the triangle to the number of edges of a cube is 1 : 4.

Step-by-step explanation:

Number of sides of a triangle = 3

Number of edges of a cube = 12

Ratio of number of sides of a triangle to the number of edges of a cube = 3 : 12 = 1 : 4

Hence, the ratio of the number of sides of the triangle to the number of edges of a cube is 1 : 4.

In converting decimals to fractions, we know that a decimal can always be converted into a fraction by using the following steps:

Step I: Obtain the decimal.

Step II: Remove the decimal points from the given decimal and take as numerator.

Step III: At the same time write in the denominator, as many zero or zeros to the right of 1(one) (For example 10, 100 or 1000 etc.) as there are number of digit or digits in the decimal part. And then simplify it.

For example:

(i) {tex}124.6 = (\frac{1246}{10}){/tex}

(ii) {tex}12.46 = (\frac{1246}{100}){/tex}

(iii) {tex}1.246 = (\frac{1246}{1000}){/tex}
