The special characteristics that enable plants and animals to be successful in a particular environment are called adaptations. Camouflage, as in a toad's ability to blend in with its surroundings, is a common example of an adaptation. Adaptations afford the organism a better chance to survive in its surroundings.

Any interval joining two points on the circle and passing through the centre is called a diameter of the circle. A diameter divides the circle into two equal parts. Each part is called a semicircle. If a radius is drawn cutting a semicircle into two equal parts, then each part is called a quadrant.

The desert oak tree (Allocasuarina decaisneana) is a majestic looking tree reaching up to 12 metres in height, when mature. It has a thick, dark brown bark, that is deeply fissured. The trees are often found in dense stands or forest, in arid desert region, often between red sand dunes
