There are six basic bridge forms: the beam, the truss, the arch, the suspension, the cantilever, and the cable-stay. bridge formsSix basic bridge forms. Truss bridges are extremely effective because they have a high strength to weight ratio. In this experiment we have tested which type of truss bridge is the strongest, yet uses the least amount of material. Two of the most used truss bridges are of the Pratt and Howe design. Bridges can be found in a variety of shapes, but 3 basic designs rule the day; beam, arch, and suspension. Most are built to stand up to 3 basic forces as well; their own weight, the weight of the load (Persons, cars, trucks, animals), and the environmental stresses like wind, water, earthquakes.
