Why does a piece of wood not burn when a burning matchstick is brought near it?

Beacuse wood's ignition temperature is much higher than what heat it gets by burning matchstick. As a substance burns only when it reaches its ignition temperature. Wood needs more enery to reach its ignition temperature, hence cannot be burned by a matchstick.
