Changing The Lives of Widows i) Sati Pratha was banned in 1829. ii) Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar favoured widow re-marriage. iii) British officials supported his cause and passed a law in 1856 that permit widows to remarry. iv) Swami dayanand saraswati, founder of arya samaj, also supported widow re-marriage.
