Because its soil looks rusty iron, hence it is called a red planet
The soil of Mars is red in color so it is known as the red planet.for example our planet earth has soil and water both soil is look in yellow-brown colour and water is in blue colour so when we see our planet in the space so where are water so it is look in blue colour and where is surface so it is look in yellow -brown but amount of water is more so it is known as blue colour. same thing are happening with the Mars when we are look it so it is look in red colour so it is known as red planet
