Hey There! I hope u r asking for It so happened textbook. If itz from It so happened textbook here is ur summary: The Princess September ? Author : William Somerset Maugham. Summary: In this story, the King and Queen of Siam have nine daughters. The Queen finds it confusing to remember all their names. Thus, the King decides to name them after the months. So, he named the youngest of them, September. The king had the habit of giving gifts to others on his birthday. One year on his birthday, he gave a green parrot in a golden cage to each of his daughters. The princesses were happy and they used to spend an hour daily with them. The parrots said ‘God save the king and Pretty Polly’ in seven languages. One morning, princess September found her parrot dead. She was very sad and wept and wept. The queen told the maids not to put her to sleep without supper. But as they had to go to a party, they left her crying and went. She saw a little bird coming into her room. It started to sing about the King’s garden, the goldfish, the willow tree, etc. In all this, she forgot to have supper. Bowing to the princess, the bird asked her if she would keep it with her in place of the parrot. The bird was not pretty. When the princess clapped her hands, it sang and she fell asleep. She fed it with her own hands also bathed him. She took him to the king, queen, and her sisters. Everyone was delighted to see and hear its song. The king was very impressed by the bird’s singing and said that he would love to hear it sing. He is tired of listening to the parrots. The other princesses were jealous of Princess September. They asked September to buy a new parrot but she said that she already has a pet bird. It sings sweet songs like a nightingale and she does not need a parrot. They told her that the bird flies in and out anytime. Thus, she should keep him in a cage as someday it may not return. She was worried about the bird as it took too long to return. So, she put it in the cage. On being asked by the bird, she said that it will be safe in the cage from the cats. The bird asked her to open the cage the next day. But she refused. Princess September asked him to sing but it could not sing. It wanted to see the trees, the river, etc. It did not eat food also. The next day, the bird told her that if he is not free, he cannot sing and will die. She thus set it free. The bird flew away with a promise to return. She kept her window open and the bird returned. It sang lovely songs for her. Princess September grew very beautiful and got married to the King of Cambodia. However, her sisters were ugly and were married to the king’s councilors. If u are asking for The Summit Within here is ur summary: The Summit Within Author: H.P.S. Ahluwalia. Summary: In the year 1965, the expedition to Mount Everest was the first successful expedition. Edmund Hillary and Major Ahluwalia were also a part of this expedition. This chapter is a reminisce of this expedition by Major Ahluwalia. He says that standing on the peak of Mount Everest he felt humbled and joyful though he was physically tired. He felt that this joy will remain with him all his life and was thus thankful to God. Also, he was sad somewhere. Though he was not sure about the reason, he thought that it was because now there is no higher peak to climb. In spite of climbing this summit, he thinks that there is also another summit that we need to climb. It is the summit of our minds. As per his observation, he said that a person requires three qualities to climb any summit. Endurance, persistence, and will power be the three qualities which a person needs to overcome the obstacles of his life. Every person thus enjoys overcoming the obstacles. On the question of why he chose to climb the Everest, he says that he loves the mountains. As Mount Everest is the highest of them all and it is a great struggle against rock and ice to climb it, he finds it very challenging. He says that he has a strong urge to face the challenges and overcome the obstacles. Also, to him, the joy of climbing Mount Everest is too much as only a few can manage to do this. He adds here that climbing Everest is not just a physical achievement but also is an emotional and spiritual experience. This success has brought him fame and also fulfillment. He further says that this summit also is a lesson of companionship. Two people share the same rope while climbing the mountain. One climber needs to hold the rope firmly while the other one cuts the steps in the hard ice. The second one then belays and then the first one inches his way up. It is very difficult for a single man to think of climbing a mountain. They need physical as well as the emotional support of their partners. Ahluwalia further states that after reaching the peak of Everest, they all bowed down to God. He left a picture of Guru Nanak, Rawat left a picture of Goddess Durga, Phu Dorji left a relic of Lord Buddha and Edmund Hillary buried a Cross under the snow at the Everest. He also says that every person has within him his own mountain peak. Climbing this inner peak is also important as this climb will also change him. He also adds that perhaps the internal summit is even higher than the Everest. Therefore frm this story v learn tht: •We can overcome any obstacle or situation in life if we have endurance, persistence, and will power.
