The symbols and signs used on a map are known as conventional symbols. A map is a description or a sketching of the earth’s surface or a portion of it sketched as per a scale on a flat surface. Mountains, houses, bridges, rivers and other aspects of this world can not be drawn on a map. Therefore to indicate the important features, some unique symbols are used.
