Length of floor = 5m Breadth of floor = 4m Area of floor = l×b 5m × 4m 20 sq.m Side of square carpet = 3m Area of square carpet = side × side 3m × 3m 9sq.m Area of floor that is not carpeted = 20sq.m - 9sq.m = 11sq.m

Length of the floor is 5m

The breadth of the floor is 4m

So, ( applying ar. l×b )

ar. of floor =4m×5m=20m2. Side of the carpet is 3m

So, (applying ar. of sq. =side×side(s))

area of carpet=3m×3m=9m2

To find the area of the floor that is not carpeted or (uncarpeted) we will (−) minus the ar. of the floor from ar. of carpet

area which is not carpeted or( uncarpeted ) =20m2−9m2

=11m2
