Perseverance is the quality of those who persevere—continue to do or try to achieve something despite difficulty or discouragement. A close synonym is persistence. Perseverance is persistence in sticking to a plan. An example of perseverance is working out for a two hours each day to lose weight. Lack of perseverance, the tendency to quit when a task becomes difficult or boring, is analogous to low scores on the self-discipline facet of conscientiousness on the same measure.
