The smallest bird in the world is the bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae), found in Cuba and the Isle of Youth (an island off the Cuban coast)! The male bird of the species measures a mere 5.7 cm (2.24 in) in total length, half of which is made up of the bird's beak and tail.
