Humus can be simply defined as the fertile and the important constituent of the soil.

Humus are the dark, organic material present on top of the soil. This organic matter mainly constitutes of dead and decaying animal substances, dried leaves, twigs, grasses, vegetables, microbes and other nutrients.

Humus are naturally obtained soil, which can be easily produced through a process called composting. It is also referred to as mineral soil, therefore, it is widely used by farmers and gardeners to improve the plant’s yield. The main significance of Humus is it helps in the improvement of crop production, improves the fertility of the earth, increases water content in the soil by rapid absorption and also improves the soil workability.
