Historians use sources like: manuscripts, rock pillars and tablets, scripts on palm leaves, monuments, official documents preserved by British, etc. Ultimately, they use literary and archaeological sources.

These documents were required to be preserved for future use, so, they built rooms next to administrative offices for keep their documents. Specialised institutions like: museums and archives were also introduced for the same.
