Water resources are natural resources of water that are potentially useful. Uses of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. The framework for allocating water resources to water users (where such a framework exists) is known as water rights. Water resources are sources of – usually freshwater that are useful, or potentially useful, to society; for instance for agricultural, industrial or recreational use. Examples include groundwater, rivers, lakes and reservoirs.
