Polyester is a long chain polymer of a chemical substance called ester.
- “Polyester” is a “synthetic Polymer” and it consists of multiple repeated chemical units are called esters.
- Polyesters are made by condensation reactions reaction. It is occurred between alcohol and a carboxylic acid. These “two functional groups” are linked by the ester linkage.For example, polyethylene terephthalate is formed by the condensation reaction between “terephthalic acid” and “ethylene glycol” by the elimination of water molecules.
- Carboxylic group of terephthalic acid and hydroxy group of ethylene glycol is connected by the ester linkage.
