Storms are created when a center of low pressure develops with the system of high pressure surrounding it. This combination of opposing forces can create winds and result in the formation of storm clouds. Thunderstorms develop when the air is unstable, which is caused when there is a layer of warm air near the ground hovering underneath a layer of much colder air. Storms are more common in the summer when the days are longer, as there are more sunshine and therefore more energy.
