The tongue is a fleshy, muscular organ attached at the back to the floor of the buccal cavity. It is free at the front and can be moved in all directions. The tongue has taste buds which detects different tastes of the food which are sweet, salty, sour and bitter. The taste buds present at the front of the tongue detect sweet and salty taste. The taste buds which detect the sour taste are present at the sides of the tongue and the taste buds which detect bitter taste are present at its back.
