Photoperiods are duration of sunlight that influences plants in their growth, flowering, formation of storage organs, leaf fall, etc. In India, there are two main seasons of crop growth: kharif and rabi.
- Kharif Crops: The crops grown during the rainy season (June to October) are called kharif crops. Example – paddy, maize, millet, groundnut, soyabean, etc.
- Rabi Crops: The crops grown during the winter season (November to April) are called rabi crops. Example – wheat, barley, gram, mustard, etc.
