Area of a square = side times side. Since each side of a square is the same, it can simply be the length of one side squared. If a square has one side of 4 inches, the area would be 4 inches times 4 inches, or 16 square inches. It is measured in a two-dimensional plane where only the surface of the shape is considered. For example, in the case of a square, we consider only the length of its sides. The square of the side of the square-shape gives the area, as all the sides of this shape are equal.
