A collective noun is a word that refers to a set or group of people, animals or things. Collective Nouns are sometimes called Group Nouns. Collective nouns are often followed by OF + PLURAL NOUN. e.g. a bunch of flowers, a flock of seagulls, a set of tools. Characteristic of any member of the cat family, you call a group of lions a "pride". More specifically, a group of female lions is called a pride, while a group of male lions is called a "coalition".
