Write a chemical equation to represent the reaction of sodium with water
  • 1 answers

Kritika Trehan 8 years, 2 months ago

Sodium metal reacts rapidly with water to form a colourless solution of sodiumhydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H2).

Na + H2O →NaOH + H2

Now as per the law of conservation of mass, mass is neither created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction. So, the equation should be balanced.

Balancing the equation we have

2Na+ 2H2O → 2NaOH + H2
