The rectum acts as a temporary storage site for feces. The rectum receives faecal material from the descending colon, transmitted through regular muscle contractions called peristalsis. It is a part of large intestine. It stores the feces prior to defecation. It connects the sigmoid colon to the **** canal. The rectum begins at the height of S2-S3 and ends at the perineum.
