The Nepalese Constituent Assembly came to fruition on 24 December 2007 when it was announced that the monarchy would be abolished in 2008 after the Constituent Assembly elections; and on 28 May 2008, Nepal was declared a Federal Democratic Republic. In May 1991, Nepal held its first parliamentary elections. In February 1996, the Maoist parties declared People's War against monarchy and the elected government. ...
