Why do we write common salt as NaCl.....why not ClNa??

According to the IUPAC nomenclature  of Ionic compounds, the cation has to be written before the anion.

In NaCl cation is  Na+ and  anion is Cl- 

If you write ClNa, it will be understood as as Cl+ and Na-
