What are the different colours of leaves
  • 1 answers

Meghna Thapar 4 years, 4 months ago

Leaves are colored by molecules called pigments. The pigment that causes leaves to be green is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is important for plants to make food using sunlight. ... As chlorophyll goes away, other pigments start to show their colors. The leaves of most plants are green, because the leaves are full of chemicals that are green. The most important of these chemicals is called “chlorophyll” and it allows plants to make food so they can grow using water, air and light from the sun.

The three pigments that color leaves are:

  • chlorophyll (green)
  • carotenoid (yellow, orange, and brown)
  • anthocyanin (red)
