A plastic which once set does not become soft on heating and cannot be moulded a second time is called thermosetting plastic which is also known as thermosets. In thermosetting plastics the long polymer chains are cross linked with one another. This cross linked prevents the displacement or sliding of individual polymer chains on heating. Due to this ,thermosetting plastics do not become soft on heating once they have set into particular shape.

Thermosetting plastics are made up from long chains of molecules that are cross-linked. They have a very rigid structure.
Once heated, thermosetting plastics can be moulded, shaped and pressed into shapes. Once set they cannot be reheated since they are permanently set.
