Why there are shadows on the moon
  • 1 answers

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 5 months ago

When the sun, the Earth and the moon are aligned in space (nearly or perfectly), with the Earth between the sun and moon, then Earth's shadow falls on the moon's face. ... During a lunar eclipse, a very small amount of light from the sun filters through Earth's atmosphere onto Earth's shadow on the moon. During a solar eclipse, the Moon actually casts two shadows toward Earth. One shadow is called the umbra which becomes smaller as it reaches the Earth. This is the dark center of the Moon's shadow. The second shadow is called the penumbra.
