The main objectives of the Indian National Congress were:- 1) civil service examination to be held in India also. 2) Indian should get the higher administration jobs. 3) Repeal of arms act. 4) Freedom of speech and expression. 5) Reduction of taxes and funds for irrigation.

In the initial years, the aims of the Indian Natinal Congress were:

  • To develop and consolidate the feelings of national unity irrespective of caste, class, religion etc.
  • Greater representation of the Indians in the legislative bodies
  • To form legislative councils in the provinces which had no such political body
  • To appoint Indians on higher position in the government offices
  • To hold Civil Services exams in India and not just in London

In the later years, the main objective of the Congress was to attain 'Swaraj' or complete independence from the British rule.
