Sieving allows the fine flour particles to pass through the holes of the sieve while the bigger impurities remain on the seive. example: in a flour mill impurities like stone and husk are removed from wheat before grinding it.

The method of separating a mixture by using a sieve is called sieving.
Sieving is used to separate those mixtures which have components of different sizes. In this process, the mixture having components of different sizes are put in a sieve and the sieve is moved back and forth continuously. The smaller particles pass through the holes of the sieve and collect in a vessel kept below. The bigger particles remain behind in the sieve.
