1. Mercury is the only element which has a large value of coeffcient of expansion.

2. When it is used in the thermometer, a very little change in the temperature can be found out.

3. It has the capability to measure temperatures that are high.

4. It does not get sticked to the surface of the thermometer which is made of glass.

It is not a good conductor of heat thats why.If it would have been a good conductor, the thermometer would burst in our body heat.
