The sepoys refused to do the army drill using the new cartridges with some objections. They suspected that the cartridges were coated with the fat of cows and pigs. Both Hindus and Muslims felt insulted. It appeared to the Indian soldiers that the right aim of the English was to turn all the sepoys into Christians, and therefore they had introduced the new cartridges. Once they suspected this. they refused to use them (new cartridges).
