    (1) Peasants who were initially tempted by the loans soon realized how harsh the system was. (2) The price they got for the indigo they produced was very low and the cycle of loans never ended. (3) There were other problems too.The planters usually insisted that indigo be cultivated on the best soils. (4) After an indigo harvest the land could not be sown with rice

    1.The planters generally forced the ryots to sign a contract. 2. Cash advances were given at low interest rates but than loan comitted the ryots to cultivate atleast 25% of holding with indigo. 3. The planters provide seed , drill, etc. and actual cultivation was done by the cultivater. 4. After the delivery of harvest cropvto the planter, new loan was given to the ryot.
