Mahalwari system: Under the system collector's went from village to village, inspecting the land, measuring the fields and recording the customs and rights of different groups full stop the estimated revenue of each plot within a village was added up, to calculate the revenue that each village bracket Mahal had to pay .this demand was to be revised periodically, not permanently fix village hitman was given the charge to collect and paste the revenue of the Company.

Mahalwari system was commonly owned by a group of villages called Mahal. The task of collecting the revenue and paying it to the company was given to the headman of each Mahal

  • The Mahalwari system is one of the three major land tenure systems implemented by the British in India.
  • Mahalwari system was introduced in 1833 during the period of William Bentick.
  • It was introduced in Central Province, North-West Frontier, Agra, Punjab, Gangetic Valley, etc of British India.
  • The Mahalwari system had many provisions of both the Zamindari System and Ryotwari System.
  • In this system, the land was divided into Mahals. Each Mahal comprises one or more villages.
  • Ownership rights were vested with the peasants.
  • The villages committee was held responsible for collection of the taxes.
