Polyester is a synthetic fibre made up of many repeating units of esters. Example – Terylene is popular polyester.

Properties of polyester:

  1. It is stronger than nylon.
  2. It is wrinkle resistant.

Uses of polyester:

  1. It is used in making sails of sail-boats.
  2. It is used in making fabrics for sarees, dress materials and curtains.

Nylon is a synthetic fibre. It is made in 1931 without using any natural raw materials. It is made from coal, water and air. It was the first fully synthetic fibre.

Properties of nylon:

  1. It is very strong, fairly elastic, lightweight and lustrous.
  2. It absorbs very little water so clothes made from nylon are easy to wash and quick to dry.

    Uses of nylon:

  3. It is used in making textiles like sarees, shirts, socks, etc.
  4. It is used in making curtains, sleeping bags and tents.
