A. Cultivation is not possible without irrigation.
B. There are some areas in India where rainfall is not adequate so there is need to develop irrigation facilities.
C. Maximum cash crops like rice, wheat, sugarcane require adequate amount of water at regular intervals so there is need to develop irrigation facilities.
D. HYV seeds need proper irrigation.
E. The objective to get maximum yield can not be fulfilled without irrigation.

1. Germination of seeds nd growth of plants. 2. Absorption of minerals and fertilizers. 3. Transportation of nutrients in plants. 4. Protection of the crop from hot air currents.
